Poll requested by Chris Save The Whale.

We already ran this poll some time ago but it wasn't saved to the archive forum and it is perhaps appropriate to gauge the current feelings on the issue. If anyone wishes to put forward the pros and cons of the subject please do so, but lets abide by the rules and respect the opinions of others whether we agree with them or not.

Thanks.

The fans associations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all against the idea.

It's is not just that we don't want to compete with our nearest rivals, but it is the long term future of the teams that are at risk. FIFA recognises the home nations as four independent footballing countries. But there is pressure on FIFA to force the UK to compete as one. FIFA's vice presidency is also permanantly held by a home nation after the home nations bailed FIFA out financially in 1947 when they were going bankrupt. Other countries don't like that either.

But don't take my word for it, listen to the following:

Scotland Football Association (SFA) chief executive Gordon Smith:

"We have a board who have looked at it, and the vote was that we don't want to take part,"

"Football is autonomous for the home nations. We have our own leagues and our own international teams.

"The Olympics is not a major football event, but people might use it to tell us we have to compete as Great Britain in other tournaments."

Football Association of Wales (FAW) president Peter Rees:

"We remain totally opposed to any Welsh involvement in a Great Britain side at the Olympics.

"Imagine the next Fifa meeting after London. You'd get people saying: 'They have always said they are four separate nations, but they were Great Britain for the Olympics - why should it not be the same for the World Cup?'"

Northern Ireland Football Association (IFA) chief executive Howard Wells:

We always said we had an open mind about it, on the proviso that there would be some kind of meaningful statement from Fifa,"

"That hasn't happened, so Lord Moynihan can huff and puff as much as he likes.

The home nations have a long history of intense rivalry
"I had assumed the BOA would respect our position, but that doesn't seem to be the case. What's the point of cobbling together a team for a one-off event?

Or Sepp Blatter himself in March 2008:

"If you start to put together a combined team for the Olympics, the question will automatically come up that there are four different associations so how can they play in one team," he said.

"If this is the case then why the hell do they have four associations and four votes and their own vice-presidency?

"This will put into question all the privileges that the British associations have been given by the Congress in 1946."

I'm sparticus. Now, let please talk about how bad an idea Team GB is and not fill this up with chit chat.

Even Seb Coe thinks it's a bad idea!

Would be nice to know the logic of the people think it is a good idea.

To who ever you are, do you accept that an olympic Team GB increases the risk of our team being destoryed? Have you read the quotes from the football associations? Do you know why 100% of the supporter's clubs are against this? Do you know of the pressure for the teams to compete as one? Do you know of the corruption and bribe culture in FIFA?

I don't want to call you names or insult you, I just want to know why you have this very uncommon view.
