  1. From what I saw Swinney dealt quite well with Harvie the other day As a minority Government the SNP will need the support of others but that doesn't mean the tail wagging the dog. Nor does it mean alienating people unnecessarily.
  2. I'm surprised that Harvie is talking about how 'fearful' the LGBTQ community (as if that's one single thing) is about rolling back rights. As a society we've moved on and I can't see us taking away rights that have already been granted. That doesn't mean that society shouldn't be less prejudiced, that it should be more accepting etc. but I feel there's a level of scaremongering going on. Some of it might be held quite sincerely but some of it could be tactical in order to keep the Greens in the headlines, 'champions' of a cause that has already been settled.
  3. How's he a throwback to the likes of Jimmy Johnstone?
  4. When the Chair of the Labour Party says a right wing Tory MP is 'a good, natural fit', when Starmer says Labour is the Party of English patriotism, when Lammy describes Thatcher as 'visionary'...It would certainly put me off if I still voted Labour!
  5. Every opportunity they need to be pointing out the fundamental lack of democracy at the heart of the UK. They need to say it often and loud until we get an answer about how we can quit if we decide. If England wanted out of the Union they'd just go.
  6. I do hope that Patterson gets back to form. If he does then it also opens up the possibility of Hickey featuring elsewhere, whether left back or even in midfield.
  7. Well United's management have come to a verdict as he's just been released by the club!
  8. I'm probably late on this. Just finished watching The Americans on Channel 4 catch up. We'd watched the first two series when it came out then, iirc, it was no longer shown on the usual channel. I was delighted to see the remaining four series. It's obviously not a documentary about Soviet spies, it's entertainment, it has it's 'jumping the shark' situations but it's very well crafted, excellent acting and good scripts. Also it has a degree of nuance, and empathy with Russian characters, that would have been unthinkable when I was growing up in the 80s. The added poignancy, looking back at the end of the Cold War is thinking about the wasted opportunity and how it's been squandered.
  9. That's no way to talk about John Swinney. He's the FM, show some respect!!!!
  10. I'm glad that you acknowledge that this is a UK wide problem and not just limited to Scotland as the media often seems to suggest. I think it's a combination of both societal attitudes as well as economic decline. We came back from Riga a few weeks back and were struck by how clean it was, very little rubbish in the streets, no chewing gum stained pavements, no discarded cigarette butts, little graffiti. You get the sense of national pride (understandable after decades of Soviet oppression), perhaps that would be a positive side effect of Scotland being independent!
