I live near San Pedro del Pinatar, and went to both the Philippines and Wales games. I think it was basically a second string against the Philippines (don’t claim to know much about Women’s football), particularly in the first half, and to be honest it was a poor game between two very ordinary teams. Stronger team for the Wales game, Scotland played much better and should have won it. Nice facility the Pinatar Arena, Scotland U20s have games against Sweden and Wales there later this month.
  2. Never on this board anymore, but had to pop on tonight. Fucking brilliant. Well done Steve Clarke for getting the best out of a decent squad of players who all, to a man, want to be there and play for the jersey.
  3. It’s not all that long ago that stopped. I used to go to games with friends that supported Hibs now and again, and there were loads of older guys (then) who regularly did so. Hearts seem to get groups of guys from Germany and Scandinavia coming to games. Nothing formal between clubs, just groups of guys wanting a boozy weekend and a football match I think. You can always spot them in the friendly pubs of Gorgie pre-match, congregated in the corner and always taller than the locals, with a ‘what the fuck are we doing here’ look on their faces.
  4. I’d happily have taken a draw before kick off yesterday, but so bad were Aberdeen (Cosgrove really is vital to their hoof ball) that it felt like two points dropped in the end. Hearts are still a mess, and it will be a struggle for the rest of the season, but a relatively young team played some nice stuff at times.
  5. No, he’s about 22 I think. I’ve seen umpteen posts make this point about McKenna. Same goes for Taylor. No one, from what I’ve seen, makes this point re Naismith who has had one game back for Hearts after a long lay off. He probably covered as much ground as anyone in the side in both games.
  6. McKenna isn’t as good as some have made him out to be. But he isn’t nearly as bad as many make out either. He should still be learning at club level, but such is the dearth of options we have at CB he is having to do it as first pick in that position for the national side. The truth is that no one else has made a convincing case for inclusion. Souttar has obvious promise, but has missed a lot of football for someone at the start of his career. And he is as prone as McKenna to the odd bombscare. The rest are all a bit ‘meh’, other than Devlin, (who is just a bit shit) and Mulgrew (who is just finished). Cooper, Findlay, Lindsay - who knows? The guy at St Johnstone was getting talked up a few months back, seems to have gone backwards. I think Halkett will be better than most of them, but injury again there. I thought Gallagher looked OK, he looks to have a bit about him.
  7. Good win. We need to start rebuilding somewhere and a result like that, away, with so many of our better players missing, is as good a place to start as any. Desperately need a decent front man, but that’s been the case for years, and a couple of half decent centre backs too. Give a lot for Griffiths to be fit and available again, other than that the cupboard is still pretty bare.
  8. So Ikpeazu dived (as I say, I genuinely can’t remember the incident you are referring to) and didn’t get a foul, while Katic dived and didn’t? Plus ca change.
  9. I honestly don’t remember the Ikpeazu dive. He does have previous for it though, and it is often comically obvious. Out of interest did Clancy give a foul?
  10. Ikpeazu spent the entire game being fouled. He’s an easy target, defenders know they can do so with impunity. A particular favourite was a swallow dive of laughably obvious fakeness by Katic right in front of the Main Stand that Clancy couldn’t make up his mind what to do first, give a foul for or award 5.0 for artistic content. He gave a foul though obviously. That he’s a hopeless ref I think just about everyone can agree. Rangers might be a lot better this season as the media assures us, I can only go by the two games I’ve seen. An OF game in which they were absolutely rotten and completely outplayed. And yesterday, in which they again looked ordinary, while a lot of average players struggled to create much of anything against a team that is 10th in the league. Maybe I’ve just seen them on a couple of bad days of course, I concede that’s possible. Re the alleged racist abuse, if the guy said it he should get a life ban and the police should be knocking on his door. I have no idea how anyone can say they know what he is saying from the clip, but if there is evidence then throw the book at him. No excuses. Not least because such behaviour gives the media all the excuses they need (not that they need any) to ignore 2 hours of sectarian party songs from hundreds, thousands, of fans in the away end.
  11. You paid 3m for Goldson. Really? Almost any other club I’d think that couldn’t be true. Taking account of signing fees and wages, extraordinary amount of money wasted on an ordinary squad of players.
  12. Hearts played OK today. No more than that, but deserved at least the draw. Rangers look to have spunked millions on a bunch of bang average journeymen. Again.
  13. I only heard the comments on sportsound at HT on Saturday, in the car on the way Love Street, with Miller, McLean, Stewart and co. gong off on one about the Celtic goal. Didn’t hear anything about the second half.
  14. Any Hearts fan who was at Tynecastle on Wednesday can tell you Clancy is hopeless. Sounds like Hibs have been on the receiving end today.
