    "Big Jim" Home

Goodbye Big Man. What laughs we had.
  2. Gone are the days of TA pulling in pals yet unknown on scarves tied together. Taking over entire stadia and away ends in merriment and abandon. Whether they liked it or not, but of course they ALL DID. We could afford to let them enjoy us and themselves of course, and they did, notably more so the poorer they were and the more they hated England. Easy pickings. God forbid POLES, not even English, could take parts of HAMPDEN, just by being Polish, doing they things bloody Poles feel think are important to their lives, when Scottish people had long lost their interest in filling their own stadium for life and death football to fill some vacuous white elephant in the algarve that screams all that wrong with world football. Ask all the Portugese you know (you do know some now don't ya) how proud they are of that elstadio in errrrr...... Nowhere. Good job we always exported Scotland's finest to every Scotland game. Yeah ok you are saying we sorted all that, we self policed. Well did you? Why is every second away game thread littered by some behavioural complaint about so called foot soldiers? Yeah ok you are saying footballs moved on (jeezers Ruaridh it's not working class anymore) Really? Try looking around you. Really around you, not just Dublin, Dundee, humberside, Where?? Germany, Holland, Italy, Poland, Russia, Now bless his heart old Sepp had a job on there managing all those firms? And the idea that other footballing mentalities should be some reflection of our own is ludicrous. You ever grown up in Bydgoszcz dreaming of football and being a fish gutter in scotland. What would your parents have said. You're a fecking dreamer kid, we're communists. And you? Your parents were saying eat yer tea and watch rising damp, terry and June, george and Mildred. Here's the Bon accord man now. Get me as the kids say.. Hehe lolled at that. Sitting in the algarve, feeling comfortably numb to it all. Met some Portugese folk, met some Germans, met some Italians, not that fussed on some of their ways mind.
  3. How are polish hooligans suddenly some surprise? The SFA and the police messed up. A shame for all those affected but that's where responsibility lies. Anyone who remembers the super cops with military vehicles and hardware escorting the TA back to Bydgoszcz for their safety years ago (more guns than TA) would know that there might be a problem now more Polish.are living in the UK and Poland has become affluent enough for others to travel. There are problems at every game they play. On the other hand the SFA are managing to organises a ticket pickup in faro to avoid the criminal scourge that is point harvesting?
  4. This has been a great positive period, the end of the last campaign and a good bit of this one. Way more hope than there has been for years. It was the most torturous group to be in and we played some of our best football for many years. An astonishing result by the Irish was the killer. Anyone that has made arrangements to go should be getting their erses there to show their appreciation and support. Outrageous that folk would consider going all the way to Portugal and then not go to the game. People clearly fortunate enough anyway to afford the trip and yet they take a selfish whining poor me attitude. I'm not up for it, cannae be bothered getting a train now, might just stay at home and clear some leaves. Stinks to the heavens of the glory hunter, all booked up, pre empting qualification and boasting to their pals about how magic it was and how they missed out. And if, given Scotland's record in the last 17 years, you are actually saying it's affected you that much, you might as well feck aff entirely, because you don't have the emotional resilience to be in the TA or indeed to call yourself Scottish.
  5. to the tune of we'll be coming. Yes. They also had a recorded version can you believe blasting out from a PA>
  6. In Lincoln now listening to we are coming we are coming, the infidels of the edl. What the .
  7. localcars.pt was car hire place I went past
  8. I've only walked around that apartment complex Andy but it's in the the same small area as the 3 hotels I mentioned. It looks pretty much the same standard really which is very good. 10 minute walk to beachfront. I can't imagine you will have any problems. Reading some of the tripadvisor reviews of the hotels I've stayed in you do wonder what people really expect. Seems to me that the people in Portugal are dead keen on having jobs and trying to do them well so any grumbles really are minor. There is also a decent supermarket about 15 mins walk if you really need anything outside your ai deal. The town is pretty small really and not very geared up to youth but equally outside the adult hotels it seems ultra children friendly in bars etc. The bar and sandwich thing I mentioned is in the sports bar down the front which does everything inc food, drinks, ice cream, all football on tv etc really well.
  9. Suppose it's what you are after Andy. There are local car hire places which seem to offer better deals than the major ones at airport so you could get a package holiday, take your transfer and hire something for a few days for what you need eg in olhos today place offering 5 days for 3 price, vw golf etc. But did think tyres were a bit worn tbh and wondered how well maintained they were so maybe the main companies at airport would be more safe and depending on car probs make little difference in cost. Olhos has only 3 big hotels, porto bay, riu guarana and the sensimar falesia ( just changed from a riu adults to a tui all inclusive). The riu guarana is the main family hotel and think it's all inclusive, hear plenty kids there on the way home. They are very nice hotels. Lots of apartments in town also offering varying things depending on your wish. I am coming back to the sensimar for the week and going to go to faro for a football break in the middle so to speak. Wife is concerned at potential scottish contingent affecting her peace....I think it could be hilarious in an all inclusive hotel...well hilarious is one possibility. Olhos and area has extensive brilliant beaches but possibly limited if your kids are older. Easy to get to bigger places like vilamoura or albufeira. There are water parks, zoos etc in the area (lots of golf if that's your thing). Never been here later than September so not sure how the season is after that but guess it's winding down a bit (probs not as much as much as Rimini was before the San Marino game though so other people will be around not just TA in a resort!) eating out, drinking and that can be as cheap or as expensive as you want. Popped into a nice bar for a quick pint and sandwich and was 1 euro for a pint of sagres and 1.50 for my tuna sandwich in happy hour which seemed most of afternoon. Ridiculous really. Think the all inclusive hotels are killing local bars etc. I hardly move when I am here so not so sure about trips around but the whole algarve is in easy reach with car really offering shopping, beaches etc. Seville is obviously a pos Spanish destination.
  10. I am in olhos now on hols. Been coming here for years as my chill out holiday away from the ta trips. Seems very weird that the two will combine in October. Very quiet wee place but lovely. Not a party place but if you plan on doing a mr and mrs hol and take in the game you should have a nice time. Any questions let me know.
  11. No matter what your views it is surely nothing less than disturbing to hear the leaders of banks and Gordon Brown explaining their financial vision and wizardry. How can they be so thick skinned to simply ignore the recession they created with their previous financial hallucinations and pontificate about financial meltdowns. Has no one noticed.....we have had one, we are suffering now. And the ever altruistic Tories leapt at the chance to cut taxes...for millionaires only and slashed services, supports and benefits for the poorest people in society. There seems to be no media speculation about their qualification to comment. When you look at the list of irresistibles; Cameron Clegg Farage Milliband Gove Hunt Johnson Hammond et al What's not to like? Just waiting for Tony Blair to wade in with a 'dossier' to round things off....
