Does anyone on here remember this tournament?

Looks like a cracking wee competition. Every previous World Cup winner (except England, who declined their invitation!) took part, with Uruguay winning against Brazil in the final.

A young Carlo Ancelotti getting a goal for Italy, with an even younger Maradona scoring for Argentina. And Pietro Vierchowod, who won the Champions League 16 years later, in the Italy squad.

Bizarre!

You've got to tip your cap to those Uruguayans, for a small country they really punch above their weight (and kick and spit also  )

I heard a rumour that England declined the invitation because they had accepted that they had really cheated to win the World Cup and so didn't really qualify. They have changed their tune since then. It was surprising that they didn't accept considering that, at that time, they hadn't qualified for the World Cup for 18 years.
