While this is probably too late for you, I think Utrecht's a great place. Would be great for a stag do and if people had to go into Amsterdam they could as it's about the same distance from Schiphol.

I agree doonhameronthedon. I live in The Netherlands and visit Utrecht frequently since its not that far from my home. The centre is lovely and great for restaurants, shopping and nightlife - Oudegracht the canal which goes through the centre has some good restaurants and is a really nice place to sit outdoors to eat and drink in good weather watching the boats and ducks/geese/swans go by.

Downsides - 1. don't leave anything valuable in your car when parking in centre. Ours was broken into and my husbands laptop stolen.
2. Not in the centre, which is lovely, but outside of there is a helluva lot of graffiti. The first time I visited it was raining - that plus all the graffiti didn't make for a good first impression.

Never been to Utrecht so cannot comment but been to Leuven many times with my work - Belgium equivalent of Oxford/Cambridge - big university place with loads of old buildings. Stella comes from there too!

Aye was over to see The Stranglers. Didn't get as much time in Leuven as expected, looked like a cracking place though.

Leuven is a place I'd love to go visit but I, for some reason, thought it'd be "industrial"..

I think it's a student town.

Vote No and forever lose the right to complain about a UK Govt that does not represent Scotland
Vote Yes in 2014 and get the government we want, every single time

I thought they were great in Utrecht. First time I've seen them since Roberts moved on as the singer. I thought they were excelleny. Leuven's a great place too. I watched the Euro 2004 final there after going to the Werchter festival. I hope you enjoyed the trip!

Agreed. I liked his voice on some of the studio stuff they recorded with him but was not impressed by him live. I hear the Stranglers are supporting Iggy and the Stooges in Brussels on 12th August. Nice double bill.
