The fact of the matter with Phillips is that he is still young enough and has been touted as a future England cap. I feel that he has decided on Scotland for the right reasons and not just to further his CV as some seem to think. Just like McGeady and McCarthy when they chose Ireland they knew what it would mean to members of their family I feel that Phillips is the same.

Just like Goram, McCall and a few others before I am happy that he has picked Scotland when he still has the chance to play for england and I hope he goes on to be as great a player as he promises to be.

So after representing England at all levels except full international He realised that he can't let his granny down and that he really always wanted to play for Scotland. You need to check if someones putting something in your hot chocolate.........

I never said at any time that he always wanted to play for Scotland. The fact of the matter is he does now. Decisions made by a kid shouldn't be held against him. How many of us made decisions at that age we cringe about now?

Actually, he has been capped up to only U20 level, so he has not beein invloved in U21 level.

What Scotland supporters should be cringing about is the fact that your team is filling up with Englishmen.

He's English and shouldn't be in your squad. International football is representative football and whilst their will always be anomalies (Jordan Rhodes, Owen Hargreaves) in the main filling your national team with foreigners isn't generally a good idea. I also think that this one has pissed the FA off and whilst you may find this amusing you proboably wont should the FA sniff around any Scottish prospects with an English Granny.

I cringed more at Dominic Matteo being called up (and he was born Scottish) and when Craig Brown presented a Scotland shirt to David Johnson (without checking his facts) than any of Leveins 2/3 additions to the squad (say what you want, Morrison was established long before Levein arrived, Walter Smith tried to get Bardsley, and it was Eck and Burley who uncovered Mackie)

But we are not filling our team!

Out the current lot,a grand total of only 2, Bardsley and Morrison, have established themselves and improved the team.... CMS will NEVER be more than a bit-part player, Mackie and Phillips have not yet established themselves (and will have a fight on their hands with Naesmith and Forrest coem September) so they are not have not walked into the first team over a Scottish talent, and Gilks will be no more than a one-cap wonder at best!

How good he is is irrelevant to those who don't want foreigners in our team.

No, but showing they are committed will help.

I doubt many people doubt that Bardsley and Morrison are fully commited now. The same can't be said for Gilks.

I don't really care how comitted they are to be honest, they're not Scottish.

I, of course, can only speak for myself.

The look of total joy on Morrisons face when he scored against Wales last year said it all!

Yes but it was Levein who capped Bardsley. And who went back after him after he had already turned us down in favour of England. Say all you want about Bardsley being "committed" etc, he is one of the worst examples in our team as he had the chance to make us his first choice when he was a young lad....and turned us down flat. I am sure he is equally as committed to Sunderland, and any other team he moves to, as he is a good honest pro after all. Its just a shame he took so long to show such "commitment" to Scotland. Because end of the day he didn't want to play for us until there was no other option. Thats the galling point about all of this.

And Eck and Burley may have "uncovered" Mackie but neither of them thought he was worthy of a call up. Levein on the other hand does.
