I haven't had a job interview for a long time, but I'm hoping this is going to be changing pretty soon.

Whilst the questions asked obviously differ depending on the role, you usually get a few 'stock' questions that I'd like to be well prepared for.

In the main, I reckon I'm OK, but there's two questions that I've been asked previously and kind of stumbled on a bit -

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

What are your weaknesses?

Are there actually correct answers for these two questions?

On the first one, the immediate response I'd imagine they want to hear is "hopefully here at your company having progressed up the ladder", but at the same time you will be talking to someone who is already up that ladder, and will they be keen on a rival? Would you say that's the right thing to say?

The second one is really tough, not only because I am borderline flawless, but because how can you answer that without denting your chances?
You can't say "I hate Mondays" or "I like long lunches". I suppose the stock answer is something like "I'm a bit too much of a perfectionist" or something, but I'd imagine that gets trotted out by everyone, and wont exactly make you stand out.

Anyway, appreciate any views from you go-getters.

Also, if there are any employers here, what do you want to hear in an interview, and read on an application?

Ta.

From my most recent experiences, most interviews are now competency based and the questions derive directly from the competencies of the role that you are applying for. I haven't been asked those type of wooly questions for years.

Genuinely the most viewed member profile on the TAMB - 16,023 and rising!

as normal "a turgid americanism"

1) I want to focus on the short term, and be effective in the role that i have applied for, once that has completed i would want to move on gain more experience and be an asset to the company, gaining the opportunity to learn

2) I would waffle something about taking job too seriously, and need to take opportunity to spread knowledge, train others - maybe tasks wouldnt be completed as effectively but collective groups knowledge and experience would grow

B)

That's very good, I'd hire you.

Especially number one, I'm stealing it, just in case any potential future employers are living in the past like me.

Cheers.

Noted B)

Though I'm guessing it's a given really, and they'll probably expect it.

Just me and you mate.

I have to say, in the good ol' days, this place was thriving.

I wonder what the traffic is like compared to, say, 2004.

I know I talk shite on here, and start a lot of threads, but in the main it's an attempt to kick a bit of life in to the place.
