Ken Livingstone has just said on a radio discussion with Angus MacNeill that Scotland is too small to have it's own military and claimed the same is also true for countries like Norway, Denmark, Sweden etc as well.

Vote No and forever lose the right to complain about a UK Govt that does not represent Scotland
Vote Yes in 2014 and get the government we want, every single time

Don't they have their own military though? They always have. As did we before the British Army. What's ken's problem?

I'm guessing he decided to throw them in before Angus used them as reasons as to why we can do it.

Sounds like Ken's talking shit. Smaller countries have smaller armies. It's pretty simple. Though to be fair you could have a Joint Scandinavian Army and keep The British Army together perhaps? We're all friends really...

Firstly, Kens a bunny rabbit.

Secondly, who needs a daft army anyway, Id prefer it if people were not being blown up all around the world in needless conflicts anyway. We need a reasonable sized defence force, thats all.

If the UK cut its ridiculous military spend, it would be of great benefit to the country.
The only way is up.

I like the idea of a naval war ship, decked out in tartan, Flower of Scotland belting from the loud speakers... Run it's "The Tartan Army" and their angry cause of the footie results. :)

This. I would have thought that "red" Ken would have had similar sentiments too, but seemingly not. Also, during his tenure as mayor of London, Ken was often fond of moaning about how much money Scotland gets compared to London (public spending is actually higher in London, but let's not go there), so surely Scottish independence would be an answer to that particular woe.

Maybe, though, Ken is like a mirror image of one of those unionists you get up here who moan like f*ck about "the Tories" in power at Westminster but have no intention at all of voting for independence from them; like a sort of mutual moaning society. Or, like you say, it could just be because he is a c*nt.
It's only funny until someone gets hurt... then it's hilarious

Your spot on. If Scotland goes its own way we could spend less on the army and more on education, health, business growth etc. I know the Armed Forces are a big employer but they can't be the be all and end all of any country. Spending money on quality housing, local business throughout the country etc will benefit future generations. Our days of battles are in the past... hopefully. :)

The problem here is that the imperialist rule Britannia way of thinking is still very evident in the English (and west-central Scottish...) mindset. They honestly still feel that the measure of a good strong country is how big the empire is/was or how many guns they have. And they're willing to live in poverty (in some parts of Glasgow) to keep that 'influence on the world stage'. The amount of times I've read "but we'll pyoor end up like Slovakia" used as a unionist argument is laughable. I've been to Slovakia, it's quite nice.

But as long as this is the kind of crap unionists are coming out with there's not that much to fear from them.

And the Queen.

Oh wait, you mean we might be allowed to keep her if that's what people want?
