Yep Pine Barrens is the best episode. Truly fantastic.

The ending of the last series is perfect, was annoyed at the time but after your initial, WTF reaction, its brilliant they couldn't have ended it in a better way.

Wire v Sopranos never ending debate:

The wire still cuts it for me as it has the realism that nothing else gets close to. It is a real social commentary. Agree that the phantom murder plot in the last series is too far fetched. Does anybody think Scott from series 5 has got a job at the Daily Record :wink2:

Regan, Ogilve, Doncaster, Longmuir and Ballantyne, a quintet of tossers - who are somehow all still in a job

Yeah the Wire just shades it despite the plot for season 5. Watched both twice and could watch either again
Pick it out Landreau

Finished it last night. I had read years ago about how it ended so had a rough idea what was coming although not the circumstances leading up to it. Absolutely fantastic. Right up there with The Wire in terms of the best shows I've watched although I think The Wire does edge it.

I'm now in the same situation I was when The Wire finished where I feel a bit lost (not the show)! I'll need to try and find something to fill the Sopranos sized gap that's been left behind!

My 2 favourite episodes were of course the Pine Barrens one and The Sopranos Home Movies in the last series was also excellent. Favourite characters were Paulie (of course!), Ralph & Tony B. Special mention for the acting skills of the guy that played AJ for managing to portray an exceptionally believable annoying wee shite who I felt like slapping just about every second of screen time he had!

There must be lights burning brighter, somewhere...

I think I might give the West Wing a run out next as my missus has always raved about that.

You should.

It's better than The Sopranos.

Vote No and forever lose the right to complain about a UK Govt that does not represent Scotland
Vote Yes in 2014 and get the government we want, every single time

The West Wing is fantastic, the best thing that's been on TV for decades.
I can't understand why we let someone else rule our land.

Uncle Junior for me, some of his one liners had me in stitches

As for the eternal Wire v Soprano's debate, for me the Wire is better the 1st time you watch it but I will never get sick of watching the Soprano's

This. One of the best hours I've ever spent in front of the box.

Pine Barrens is one of the greatest comedy episodes of any tv show in history, an hour of pure hilarity.

I just can't agree. The pace of the episodes is totally different and the character development isn't as full. The dialogue is, however, superb.

Not a bad series but The Wire and Sopranos are still heads above.

The Wire was dreadful.

West Wing was the best TV show ever, with The Sopranos second, currently watching Breaking Bad, it's not bad, but I can't see it challenging either of these.
The only way is up.

Havers man. The Wire is outstanding. First few episodes are slow burning but after that i though it didn't let you go till the end.
