'eligible' Striker Linked With Scotland

14 March 2013 - 12:08 PM

Matt Smith, Oldham's 6'6 Striker who has scored 4 goals this season vs. Premier League sides linked with us.... got a feeling this wont go down well with some....

From Sky Sports...

Sky Sports understands a number of clubs are monitoring Matt Smith's situation at Oldham on the back of his FA Cup exploits this season.

The giant target man, 6ft 6in, was twice voted the Player of the Round as he excelled as Oldham beat Liverpool and took Everton to a replay.

Smith, an international management graduate, posed all kinds of problems for both clubs and it appears his four goals against Premier League opposition, despite starting two of the three matches on the bench, has caught the attention of clubs higher up the football pyramid.

Stoke, Celtic and Birmingham, with whom Smith's father enjoyed a spell with during his own playing career, are all thought to be looking at a player who has only been a professional for two seasons.

Such has been his meteoric rise, Smith has scored eight goals from 14 starts this term, it is also thought Scotland are keeping tabs on the form of a player who is eligible to play for them through his father.

Oldham are currently embroiled in a battle to retain their League One status and have yet to disclose which soon to be out of contract players they want to keep to Boundary Park.

Scotland Squad Named On Thursday

27 January 2013 - 04:13 PM

Just confirmed on BBC Sport, as expected due to midweek games to minimise possible call off's

That would only be 3 days before the squad would meet would it not?! Not much time but I guess it's okay for an international Friendly.

Surely after this weekends games Ross McCormack has pushed himself into the reckoning and there must be less and less chance of seeing Kenny Miller in that squad list. Would also love to see Gary Mackay-Steven and Tom Cairney/Scott Allan involved too.

Pubs In Perth (Australia) To Watch Luxembourg Game In

04 November 2012 - 01:55 AM

As the title suggests....

In Perth on holiday, never been here before though, does anyone know of any good bars, or Scottish bars to watch the Luxembourg game in?

An excuse to shout at Levein and be pissed off at Scotland in a different country - should be fun :)

The Sfa And Levein

18 October 2012 - 09:11 AM

Read today that it will cost the SFA £700,000 to sack Levein this year - Something they could have done for free before his contract renewal at the end of the last campaign.

He is Scotlands highest ever paid, and also statistically worst manager in history.... What a joke.

Do the SFA have the balls to sack him knowing they will have to pay that out? I think they'd rather piss off 99% of the fans they know will still come to games to cover up for their abhorration of a decision to award him a new and extremely lucrative contract.

Think we better get used to having this useless man in charge still, while the SFA put a spin that "They're giving him time, progress has been made and we arn't mathematically out of qualification"

Craig Levein must be sitting in his house laughing - If he stays in the job he keeps picking up his near £400,000 a year salary, if he gets sacked he get's not much shy of £1Million for leaving....

The SFA have done it again; Doncaster, Regan, Levein, Houston and Black should all go and everything should be started from scratch and with much more thought and careful decision making

Craig Levein's Statements

16 September 2012 - 11:36 AM

Apologies if this is a repost....

This is from the daily record today, a direct quote:

CRAIG LEVEIN last night insisted Jordan Rhodes still isn’t ready to start for Scotland against Wales in next month’s crunch World Cup qualifier.
The national manager is adamant he was right not to start the £8million Blackburn Rovers striker in last week’s double-header with Serbia and Macedonia at Hampden.
Rhodes came off the bench in both games but played just 36 minutes of football as Scotland drew 0-0 then 1-1.
There is a clamour to start the 22-year-old against Chris Coleman’s men but Levein reckons that would be unfair on the youngster.
Rhodes netted twice in Blackburn’s thrilling 5-3 win over Bristol City yesterday but that’s unlikely to change Levein’s mind.
The Scots boss said: “In the lead up to the Serbia game all the talk in the papers and on radio was about Jordan Rhodes.
“Listen, Jordan isn’t ready to play international football. He’s not.
“Jordan has been built up to this kind of status and the danger for me is he’s getting way over-hyped and that might damage his confidence. It was unusual for there to be a such a clamour for a young boy to play. It was beyond normal.
“The fact somebody has paid £8m for him is their opinion. In my opinion he’s not ready yet to start every game for us.
“It’s easier for me to pick players who are playing at a higher level.”

Im confused.... So the MLS is a higher level than the top of the championship is it!?

Well I look forward to seeing Miller upfront on his own in a defensive 451 in Cardiff next month then, you'd think this man wanted to save his job but obviously not!! *Facepalm*
