Message from Scotland Supporters' Club
SCOTLAND are on their way to Wembley for the first time since the famous 1-0 win against England in 1999.
The Scottish FA is delighted to announce that Craig Levein’s squad will resume the Auld Enemy rivalry on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 as part of The Football Association’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
Don Hutchison was the goalscoring hero the last time Scotland took on England, in the UEFA Euro 2000 play-off. Now, as part of preparations for the second half of FIFA World Cup Qualifying Group A, Scotland will play in the refurbished Wembley Stadium for the first time.
The National Team Coach, Craig Levein, believes his squad will relish the challenge of this historic fixture.
He said: “For any Scotland supporter, player or coach, Scotland versus England is the ultimate contest: it really is as good as it gets. I am thrilled that we have reached agreement with The FA to play at Wembley as part of their 150th Anniversary celebrations and I am sure the supporters will be there in their tens of thousands.
“Our match against Brazil at the Emirates Stadium in London last year was a tremendous spectacle and I was overwhelmed by the support we had that day. This is an even more mouth-watering prospect for all concerned and the players will be desperate to record another famous victory at Wembley.
“It will also be the best test possible before we resume our FIFA World Cup Qualifying campaign next year.”
Roy Hodgson, England National Team Coach, added:
“I am privileged to be manager of England at UEFA Euro 2012 and it will be another huge honour to lead our nation out against our oldest rivals. For us, England v Scotland is one of the finest fixtures in international football and I know what this game means to both sets of supporters.
“It will be a fitting part of The FA’s 150th anniversary celebrations and the supporters, the team and my coaching staff all look forward to welcoming Scotland to Wembley Stadium next year.”
England and Scotland are international football’s oldest opponents. They met in the first official match ever played.
The original staging of this fixture took place at the ground of the West of Scotland Cricket Club at Partick, on Saturday, 30 November 1872. In the previous month The FA Committee had formally agreed to send a representative team, “in order to further the interests of The Association in Scotland”.
Bell’s Life saw it as “one of the jolliest, one of the most spirited and most pleasant matches that has ever been played according to Association rules”. There was a crowd of nearly 4000 and it finished in a 0-0 draw.
The teams have now met on 110 occasions. England has won 45 times, Scotland 41 times and there have been 24 draws.
Scotland’s ‘Wembley Wizards’ were 5-1 winners in 1928 but an England side defeated Scotland 9-3, also at Wembley, to clinch the British Championship trophy in 1961. A colossal attendance of 149,547, still a British record, saw Scotland win 3-1 at Glasgow’s Hampden Park in 1937.
Details on how supporters can roar Scotland to victory at Wembley will be confirmed shortly, with exciting packages that will guarantee your visit to Wembley and your unique seat for all Scotland’s home matches in FIFA World Cup Qualifying Group A against Croatia, Serbia, Belgium, Macedonia and Wales.

That's quite an interesting statement. I wonder if this means qualification is different to a normal away ticket?
I have been looking at this as well and am of the view that the two items are linked i.e a home season ticket purchase entitles you to a Wembley ticket. IF that is the case that suggests that the long standing points system is in some way discarded, that would be scandalous and reeks of blatant commercialism. Think I will be on the phone tomorrow asking some questions.
Don't think they can either but like Broon2 they are discarding the current allocation system for something else.
But we are not going to take 30k for a mid week friendly.
But if so, why ? There's no need - other than to help sell home season tickets. The points system has been established over a number of years and it works. On this occasion I am in little doubt that we will receive a substantial allocation, more than enough to cater for all SSC members who wish to attend regardless of the number of points they may have.
Recognise that under 12,000 SSC members took tickets for the Brazil game via the SSC and that game was on a weekend.
Scottish football and the SFA need some friends in the current climate, are they now about to alienate the most regular supporters of the national team for blatant commercialism.
Before any Tamber starts accusing me of "elitism" read ths post again, I believe that there will be enough tickets for everyone who wants to go and I genuinely want as many SSC embers there as possible.
The more I read that paragraph the more I believe that home. Season tickets and Wembley tickets are linked, why say it otherwise. Is it an attempt to hope no one notices due to the excitement of a game against England. Interesting as though that encounter may be, there are in my view more important games to be played this year and next.
Sorry, I didn't explicetly say but I completely agree with you.
I suspect, with falling SSC numbers, this has moved from 'How can we fairly take care of the fans' to 'How do we maximise revenue from these guys'.
Sad if true as there would be no reason not repeat it next time there is a 'glamour' game.
That may be true Jim, but as Wanderer says We will not take 30,000
"This is an even more mouth-watering prospect for all concerned and the players will be desperate to record another famous victory at Wembley."
Does this actually mean this is a game you are going to try and win Craig? or just the players?
IMHO its a fixture that does not have the same value it use to have.... Nostalgia value yes, but times have changed.... I was perfectly happy to let FIFA/UEFA pair us together once every 10 or so years, as then the match would mean something to both teams.
But since we last played, we have been to hell and back (and back to hell again), while England have bigger fish to fry (ask the English about rivalry, and a game v us has gone from top spot to probably 4/5th on the list).
We view it as a rivalry, but the English view it as just another match....
It's probably a bit of both tbh, most nations hate the english so it's all rivalry to them!
I think they count Germany and Argentina as bigger rivals than us now, and include France, Brazil and Spain as bigger ones than us simply because of them being top dogs in world football.
Biggest problem with that is can anybody say for 100% that they will definitely be able to go to a game in 14 months time?
Away tickets aren't transferable (officially).
Home ones are.
If the SFA do distribute tickets with the 'Season Ticket' package, if I couldn't mark Serbia at home (or similar) I could easy pass the ticket onto one of my mates no bother.
But if I emigrate/die in the next 13 months, giving my Wembley ticket to one of my mates instead i'd be breaking the rules and could be thrown out the club (which, admittedly wouldn't be a huge problem if I was dead)
I do not, therefore, expect 0 pointers to be able to purchase tickets ahead of myself and everyone else in my situation.
I'm not buying a home match package because I can't afford to just now. I will still buy a ticket for every home game, just not all at once, but I could be punished for that now by missing out on an England ticket?
I hope i'm getting ahead of myself and this has all been taken the wrong way.
Hear what you say - but no-one can screw up a message that bad, unless it's referring to Thomson Travel and I don't believe it has. I still believe there's something tied up with home season tickets.

Jim I hope it's wrong and that we are mis-reading it or it's badly worded. Let's hope so. If they fek up the points system then that will be a disgrace. Just cannot believe they would be so stupid . Maybe I'm naive....
But if you buy a season ticket you could get priority for an England ticket.
